Hoka Norefjell Trail – Competition Rules 

ARTICLE 1 – LOCATION The Hoka Norefjell Trail takes place at Norefjell Ski & Spa 

ARTICLE 2 – EVENTS & PARTICIPANTS LIMITS The event offers the following distances:

Norefjell 42K | 42km and 1500m+; ITRA 2 / 50K UTMB Index

Norefjell 22K | 22km and 800m+; ITRA 1 / 20K UTMB Index

Norefjell 12K | 12km and 500m+;  

Norefjell Kids | All courses follow scenic and nice mountain trails around Norefjell in a mix of gravel roads and single trails. 

The total number of participants is limited to a maximum of 1,000 runners across all race distances. In addition, each individual distance is capped at 800 participants. Registration will automatically close once these limits are reached, and no further entries will be accepted.

ARTICLE 3 – ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

Because we love nature, let's respect it! Participants must stay on marked trails and not shortcut. Any littering will result in disqualification. Follow the “leave no trace” principle and respect local wildlife and flora.

ARTICLE 4 – CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Minimum ages vary by distance:

42K: 18 years old

22K: 14 years old (with parental authorization for minors)

12K: 11 years old (with parental authorization for minors).

Kids Race: 4 years old

These races are open to any person, according to the official categories, licensed or not. Each participant commits to having sufficiently trained, as well as to be in a state of health allowing them to participate. Participation is at the participant’s own risk, and each participant must have their own insurance to cover any accidents, injuries, or other incidents that may occur during the event.

Registration implies unconditional acceptance of these rules and the ethical spirit of the race.

ARTICLE 5 – CATEGORIES & PRIZES

Runners are grouped by gender and event categories. Awards for the top ten in each category and only runners present at the prize ceremony can receive their prizes.

ARTICLE 6 – REGISTRATION, CANCELLATION, TICKET RESALE & CHANGE OF DISTANCE

Registration is available online via the race website until the race is full. In the event of cancellation by the runner, the organizer will not issue any refund. Ticket resale is possible through our registration partner “Racedays” only. It is not possible to resell other services purchased with the ticket (such as t-shirt or transport) via the platform — this must, if desired, be arranged directly between buyer and seller. Participants are allowed to change to a shorter distance until 13 June, subject to availability and the maximum capacity for each distance.

ARTICLE 7 – MANDATORY EQUIPMENT 

For the 42K and 22K: 

  • Waterproof or windproof jacket

  • Cap, bandana or Buff

  • Fully charged mobile phone

  • Cup or bottle to carry a minimum of 0.5L liquid

  • Race nutrition

  • Race bib



For the 12K:

  • Cup or bottle to carry a minimum of 0.5L liquid

  • Race nutrition

  • Race bib

Equipment checks may be performed before and after the race.

ARTICLE 8 – BIB COLLECTION Bib pickup takes place at designated times and locations (see Race Information). 

Bibs must be worn visibly on the chest or abdomen for the race duration.

ARTICLE 9 – AID STATIONS & NUTRITION

Aid stations with water and nutrition are located roughly every 10 km. No disposable cups are provided – runners must use their personal flask or cup. Private assistance is only allowed in official aid zones. Wild or external aid outside these zones is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.

ARTICLE 10 – CUT-OFF TIMES & SAFETY

Cut-off times are enforced for safety and logistical reasons (details on Race Information page). Runners who miss cut-offs must withdraw and report to the nearest aid station. The course may be modified or stopped due to extreme weather or safety concerns. Competitors must respect the instructions given by the race organizers and volunteers.

ARTICLE 11 – WITHDRAWAL & REPATRIATION

If a runner quits the race, they must inform the nearest aid station or volunteers. The organizer will assist with transport back to the start/finish area when possible.

ARTICLE 12 – MEDICAL ASSISTANCE & INSURANCE

Medical teams and volunteers will be present along the course and on aid stations. In the event of accidents or health situations, please contact the nearest aid station or call the local emergency number; 952 09 908 (Røde Kors).

Participants are solely responsible for personal belongings and equipment during the race and related activities

ARTICLE 13 – DISQUALIFICATION Violations of these rules will result in disqualification, including:

  • Littering

  • Course cutting

  • Late departure 

  • Lack of mandatory equipment

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior

ARTICLE 14 – IMAGE RIGHTS & DATA PROTECTION

By participating, runners accept that photos and videos may be used for event promotion. Personal data is stored securely and used only for race management and result lists. If you do not want your name or picture to appear, you can notify us by email: support@norefjelltrail.no

ARTICLE 15 – RACE CANCELLATION 

If the race is canceled, regardless of the timing or cause, no refunds will be provided. The organizer reserves the right to change the course for safety reasons.
